The head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, announced the successful completion of an operation conducted in the summer of 2023, which resulted in the elimination of one of the three 'Oreshniks' on Russian territory. Malyuk disclosed this information during a press briefing.
"We kept this under wraps, but briefly, one of the 'Oreshniks' was successfully neutralized at Kapustin Yar by the forces of the GUR, SBU, and SVR," he stated.
Malyuk assured that "the elimination was absolutely thorough." He emphasized that this operation was not publicized, and the results were reported solely to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief – the President of Ukraine. According to him, several other country presidents were also aware of this.
"This occurred at a time when the term 'Oreshnik' was not widely recognized and the Russians had not yet made any threats involving it. If I’m not mistaken, this successful operation took place two summers ago," he added.
As of June, President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that out of 39 Russian companies producing 'Oreshnik' ballistic missiles, 21 are still not under sanctions.
