A recent prisoner exchange took place between Ukraine and Russia, resulting in the return of 185 military personnel and 20 civilians. This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on his Telegram channel.
«We are bringing home 185 of our defenders from Russian captivity. One hundred eighty-three of them are privates and sergeants, and two are officers. These are warriors from the Armed Forces, National Guard, and State Border Guard Service. Alongside our defenders, 20 civilians are also returning. Everyone will receive the necessary support», - Zelensky stated.
He noted that the returned soldiers had been in Mariupol and at «Azovstal», with most in captivity since 2022.
«We thank everyone who makes these exchanges possible. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we have managed to bring home more than 7,000 of our people. We must return everyone. We work on this every day», - emphasized the President.
It is worth noting that the last prisoner exchange occurred on August 24, during which soldiers from the Armed Forces, National Guard, and State Border Guard Service, as well as civilians, including journalist Dmytro Khilyuk and former mayor of Kherson Volodymyr Mykolayenko, were returned.
