The Kherson regional budget allocated 50 million hryvnias for purchasing materials to secure roads with anti-drone nets, covering 60 kilometers. This was reported by "Novyny Pryazov'ya".
"We have sections that are fully protected, but initially, we planned for over 60 km – this is the maximum we can achieve with the regional budget. We have no further funds available," stated Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, Deputy Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.
"We have approached the central government for additional funding. We are ready to receive the nets and will install them on our own," he added.
According to him, the installation work has been ongoing for about a year. Initially, they focused on critical infrastructure, then on hospital access roads, and now they are addressing regular roadways. The priority is roads used for entering and exiting Kherson.
"Currently, the number of attacks and activity of Russian drones on the Mykolaiv-Kherson highway has significantly decreased. Besides the nets, we also utilize electronic warfare systems. The combination of nets and electronic warfare yields good results," the official asserts.
Sometimes, the Kherson region receives free materials for anti-drone tunnels from abroad. Entrepreneurs are willing to donate nets that are no longer in use. However, Oleksandr Tolokonnikov emphasizes the need to inspect these materials.
"The nets being installed now have proven effective against drones – FPV, Mavic. There have even been instances where these nets stopped drones like the "Wing"," the official added.
