Ukrainian Air Defense Thwarts Russian Attacks

Ukrainian air forces have successfully intercepted a significant number of Russian drones and missiles during recent assaults.

The air defense forces neutralized 230 drones, two "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles, and four X-101 cruise missiles.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Ukrainian Armed Forces Air Force on their Telegram channel.

From 8 PM on Monday, August 18, Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine using 280 aerial assets:

  • 270 strike drones of the Shahed type and imitation drones from the directions of Kursk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk;
  • five "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles from the Rostov and Voronezh regions, as well as from temporarily occupied Crimea;
  • five X-101 cruise missiles from strategic aviation aircraft over the Caspian Sea.

The attack was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

As of 9 AM on Tuesday, August 19, the air defense had downed or suppressed 236 aerial targets:

  • 230 Shahed-type drones and imitation drones;
  • two "Iskander-M" missiles;
  • four X-101 cruise missiles.

Confirmations of four missile hits and 40 drones were recorded at 16 sites, with debris from downed targets falling at three locations.
