Tochitsky emphasized that the enemy's nighttime assault was aimed at "the very heart of our cultural identity."

He noted that St. Sophia Cathedral is a sanctuary that has endured centuries and symbolizes the birth of Ukrainian statehood.

The minister specified that the blast wave destroyed the cornice on the main apse of this 11th-century temple, referring to it as "the soul of all Ukraine."

Furthermore, according to the minister, the same day's shelling also damaged the Odesa Film Studio.

"Pavilions, storage facilities, decorations, and vehicles were damaged. The decorations for the film 'Dovzhenko' — a national project about the famous Ukrainian director — were completely destroyed," Tochitsky reported.
