A new feature has been launched in the "Diia" application, allowing users in Ukraine to check for nearby energy-independent xPON networks.
According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, this map will help users assess the technical state of internet service and plan their work or studies during power outages.
On the "Diia" map, users will be able to quickly find out:
- which xPON providers serve a specific address;
- the presence of xPON technology that enables internet access without electricity;
- the operational duration of the network during outages (from 4 to 72 hours).
"Users can leave feedback on provider services, which will enhance competition and service quality," the statement noted.
Additionally, the map will display the coverage of energy-independent internet throughout Ukraine. "We will be able to identify problem areas and work on their resolution, which is especially important for frontline regions," the ministry added.
According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, in the autumn of 2025, when a new wave of outages occurred, the demand for xPON technology increased by 45-77% in various regions. Currently, 52% of subscribers use this technology, up from just 30% in 2021. The leaders in coverage (over 70%) are Vinnitsa, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Volyn regions.
It is worth noting that xPON (Passive Optical Network) is a technology that allows users to stay online without electricity for up to 72 hours. The optical cable connects directly to the apartment, and there is no equipment requiring power along the way. The main requirement is to power your router and ONU terminal.
