New sports routes are being developed across the capital of Ukraine. This was announced by Olena Hovorova, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, during a meeting of the Accessibility City Committee.
«For Ukrainians, sports are not just about health but also about recovery through physical activity. We have studied the experiences of other cities and decided to create sports routes in Kyiv. These routes will be circular and cover all districts of the city, making it convenient for residents and visitors. We have already planned and developed 16 routes in collaboration with the Kyiv running community. Each route will feature an information board detailing its length, difficulty level, and estimated time to complete, along with necessary signage. The routes will also include an audio guide in both Ukrainian and English, allowing users to learn interesting facts about the places they pass. To access the audio guide, one simply needs to scan the QR code on the information board at the start of the route», – noted Olena Hovorova.
She added that there are plans to install fitness stations along the routes, allowing people to engage in sports during their walks or runs.
The navigation for the routes will be funded by partners. Meanwhile, the Sports Complex Utility Company will ensure that all signage is accessible.
Lesya Petrivska, Head of the City Committee for Accessibility for People with Disabilities and Other Mobility-Impaired Groups, emphasized the necessity of adhering to accessibility principles in creating these sports routes.
«I thank the city for its proactive stance in considering the interests of all residents, including those with disabilities, when opening any infrastructural facilities. The mnemonic schemes planned at the beginning of the routes will help visually impaired individuals use them. Additionally, for the convenience of those with hearing impairments, it is essential to translate audio guides into sign language», – stressed Lesya Petrivska.
In 2024, three routes are planned to be launched in the Holosiivskyi and Podilskyi districts.
Information about the sports routes will be available at the Tourist-Cultural Hub.
