Kyiv's Mayor Vitali Klitschko met with local athletes who won medals at the XXXIII Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games in Paris. The city traditionally recognized the achievements of these athletes and their coaches with monetary awards.
This year, the city has increased the financial rewards. Specifically, athletes received nearly 2.5 million UAH for gold, over 1.2 million UAH for bronze, and 186,000 UAH for fifth and sixth places. Their coaches also received cash bonuses.
“From July 26 to August 11 of this year, Kyiv athletes, as part of the Ukrainian national team, participated in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. Sports organizations, athletes, coaches, and specialists invested substantial efforts in preparing our Olympians for these prestigious events. The Kyiv athletes demonstrated exceptional skill and determination to win – the Ukrainian flag was raised twice in their honor. At this Olympics, 140 athletes competed for the glory of our country in 26 sports, with 42 Kyiv athletes competing for medals in 15 disciplines,” noted the mayor.
Out of the 12 medals won by the Ukrainian team at the last Olympics, one gold medal was claimed by Kyiv fencers Olha Kharlan and Yuliia Bakastova in the team sabre event. Olha Kharlan also won a bronze medal in individual sabre fencing, while Iryna Herashchenko earned bronze in high jump. Additionally, our athletes secured fifth and sixth places.
“Our Olympians have proven that Ukrainians are champions. Thank you for your professionalism and will to win – I understand how challenging it is to achieve victories in sports. Glory to Ukraine and those who bring it honor!” emphasized Vitali Klitschko.
