Serhiy Lapin, director of the absolute champion Alexander Usyk's team, stated that the Ukrainian has every right to rest and choose whether to fight Joseph Parker.

This information is relayed by Ready to Fight.

"Throughout his career, both Alexander Usyk and our entire team have shown respect for all potential opponents and the rules governing professional boxing. In the last year and a half, Usyk has achieved historic milestones, becoming the absolute heavyweight champion twice. This has required immense physical and psychological effort, as well as significant sacrifices. The champion deserves the chance to let his body recover from the strenuous training regimen and injuries that often go unnoticed. Most importantly, he deserves to spend time with his family and simply take a break. He has earned the right to choose his future and take the necessary time to make that decision. So, please, let’s not rush him", said Lapin.

Previously, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) mandated Usyk to fight the New Zealander. Usyk has already requested the WBO to postpone his title defense due to injuries and fatigue. Reports indicate that he has been dealing with a long-standing back issue. Additionally, the boxer asked for more time to rest due to his age, noting that he has been competing at the highest levels in recent years.

It’s worth mentioning that Usyk recently knocked out British boxer Daniel Dubois, becoming the absolute world champion in the heavyweight division for the second time. He is the first since Muhammad Ali to achieve this feat.
