In the village of Vyshnivets, a shocking incident occurred where a newborn son was left outdoors.
The police quickly tracked down the baby's mother, who now faces up to three years in prison.
This information was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Ternopil region.
According to the authorities, on Sunday, April 20, around 1:45 PM, they received a report about a newborn baby found near a closed store.
The infant was taken to the hospital for examination, and currently, there are no threats to its life.
To identify the mother, the Ternopil police interviewed local residents, reviewed surveillance footage, checked information on pregnant women in the area, and collaborated with medical and social services.
The mother turned out to be a 19-year-old local resident, and investigative actions are being taken with her.
"It was revealed that the suspect returned from abroad the day before. She was not registered with medical services, gave birth at home, wrapped the baby in a blanket, and then took it outside," the police stated.
Investigators have opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 135 (leaving in danger) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This carries a penalty of restriction of liberty for up to three years or imprisonment for the same duration. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
