The judiciary has received new indictments from the police regarding domestic violence cases. One of the offenders has already received a verdict.
This information was provided by law enforcement authorities.
Authorities discovered that two men, aged 35 and 58, from the Kodima and Podilsk communities, while intoxicated, exhibited aggression towards their wives. The women suffered from their verbal abuse, shouting, and threats of physical violence.
The police compiled reports under Articles 173-2 of the Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses against the aggressors. The court imposed fines on them.
One woman from the Kodima community filed a lawsuit for a protection order against her husband to mitigate the negative impact of his presence. The court prohibited the aggressor from approaching the victim, being at her residence, and communicating with her for six months. However, the man disregarded these restrictions and was sentenced in August of the previous year to one year of restriction of liberty with a probation period of one year.
During preventive discussions, officers warned the men about the criminal liability for domestic violence. They expressed remorse but continued to terrorize their wives, becoming subjects of criminal proceedings under Article 126-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
During pre-trial investigation, sufficient evidence was gathered confirming the systematic psychological abuse by the offenders towards their family members, resulting in psychological distress for the victims.
The indictments against the offenders have been submitted to the court, and a decision has already been made regarding one aggressor from the Kodima region.
Taking into account the admission of guilt and sincere remorse of the defendant, the court found him guilty and imposed a sentence of two years and six months of restriction of liberty with a probation period of two years, partially aggregating the unserved portion of the previous sentence. During the probation period, the man must regularly report for registration to the probation authority, notify of any changes in residence, work, or study, not leave Ukraine without permission, and comply with the conditions of the probation program "Overcoming Domestic Violence".
