The capital of Lithuania hosted a significant meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. Tsikhanouskaya shared this news on social media.
“On behalf of all Belarusians, I expressed unwavering solidarity with the Ukrainian people fighting for their freedom, and deep respect for President Zelensky's exceptional leadership,” she stated.
During the meeting, they discussed the Belarusian supporters of Ukraine, as well as the situation of detained activists and volunteers who have faced repression for their solidarity and Belarusians living in Ukraine.
“I thanked President Zelensky and his team for accepting the latest group of freed Belarusian political prisoners,” Tsikhanouskaya added.
The opposition leader emphasized the importance of discussing further actions regarding releases, sanctions against the regime of Alexander Lukashenko, and a joint strategy with democratic partners from Europe and the United States.
She expressed gratitude to Zelensky for his “strong words” during the commemoration of the January Uprising of 1863, for Ukraine's clear support of democratic Belarus, and for distinguishing the Belarusian people from Lukashenko's regime.
Tsikhanouskaya also expressed her desire to deepen cooperation with Ukraine, affirming the inseparable link between a free Ukraine and a free Belarus.
Earlier in January, Tsikhanouskaya announced her decision to move to Poland.
