The Lithuanian Foreign Minister, Kęstutis Budrys, presented a symbolic map to his Ukrainian counterpart, Andriy Sybiha, as a gesture of support for Ukraine's territorial integrity.
This was announced during a joint press conference held in Kyiv.
“This act signifies not just Lithuania's commitment, but also that of my colleagues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We signed a pledge to uphold your territorial integrity – every square inch of your land,” said Budrys.
He added, “603,628 square kilometers. This is Ukraine, which we defend. This is our greatest ally.”
During their discussions in Kyiv, Sybiha and Budrys agreed on further steps regarding security, defense, European integration, and sanctions against Russia.
«We discussed various aspects of our relationship, including key security, defense, European integration, and reconstruction issues… Today we will also exchange thoughts on security challenges and threats to our region,» Sybiha stated at the joint press conference with his Lithuanian counterpart.
He also noted that another topic of discussion was the path to a just peace, especially as Russia dismisses peaceful efforts.
«We share the view that peace through strength remains the only realistic approach. We agreed to work together on enhancing sanctions against Russia… We must cut off funding for Russian aggression and eliminate the aggressor's profits from energy sales,» emphasized the minister.
Sybiha informed that he also plans to discuss with his Lithuanian counterpart the support for Ukraine's aspirations to join the EU and NATO. Additionally, both parties coordinated their future cooperation in multilateral formats.
The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to Lithuania for its support of Ukraine. He reminded that 2% of Lithuania's GDP is allocated to assist Ukraine.
«This is the third highest in the world, demonstrating true leadership in aid. The total assistance provided by Lithuania exceeds 1.7 billion euros, with nearly half, over 800 million euros, allocated for defense support. Thank you for this… We also appreciate Lithuania's funding for the European plan to procure Patriot systems and other American weapons, as well as the willingness to initiate arms production both in Ukraine and in Lithuania,» Sybiha emphasized.
It is worth noting that Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys arrived in Ukraine for a visit on Friday, September 19.
