The US President's Special Representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, has proposed the creation of a demilitarized zone that would be controlled by both Ukraine and Russia. He stated that a 30-day ceasefire could be a decisive factor.

Details: According to Kellogg, a way forward may involve a ceasefire ":on the spot," allowing both sides to maintain control over the territories they currently hold.

Kellogg's direct quote: "So Ukrainians need to understand: "This is one of those situations that can change over time." If you agree to a ceasefire at the current positions, then the land you control, for which you have fought, is your land at this moment."

Details: He cited examples from the Baltic States after World War II and the reunification of Germany, noting that political realities can evolve.

Kellogg mentioned that Ukraine seems prepared for a temporary demilitarized zone: Ukrainian and Russian forces could pull back 15 km, creating a 30-kilometer combat-free zone overseen by a coalition of military observers.

Kellogg's direct quote: "They are prepared, for a certain period, to establish a demilitarized zone. Essentially, they said: we will withdraw 15 km, and you Russians will also withdraw 15 km. Therefore, a clearly controlled 30-kilometer zone will be established, where violations can be monitored.

And if this truce can be maintained for 30 days - I truly believe it can - then it can be extended. As a military person, I can tell you: it is very difficult to restart conflict after a ceasefire. And I don’t think they will go to war again."
