Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has expressed his belief that Ukraine's accession to the European Union would not be beneficial.
Orban claims that Hungary's entry into the EU was advantageous for other member states, but Ukraine would not add value and would instead become a burden.
He stressed that redirecting European funds to support Ukraine is a major mistake, suggesting that these resources should be used to bolster the struggling EU economy.
The European Commission aims to sway Hungary's opinion
The European Commission hopes to persuade Hungary to lift its objections regarding the initiation of negotiations with Ukraine for EU membership, particularly concerning the first cluster titled “Foundations”.
This first cluster addresses fundamental requirements that must be met for any country aspiring to join the EU, including the rule of law, anti-corruption measures, and press freedom.
Peter Madyar, leader of the Hungarian opposition party “Tisa”, conducted a large-scale public survey revealing significant support among Hungarians for Ukraine's entry into the European Union.
