The Kyiv metro serves not only as a fast transportation option but also as a reliable shelter during tough times. Metro staff assist passengers in navigating the system, ensuring safety on platforms, and providing support. It is crucial for everyone to take care of themselves and their loved ones while in the shelter.

During air alerts, there are specific recommendations to follow for a comfortable stay in the metro.

At night in the shelter, it is essential to have:

  • warm clothing, blankets, and sleeping mats, as the temperature can drop to about 17–18°C;
  • personal medications, a bottle of water, or a thermos with a hot drink;
  • hygiene products (wet wipes, toilet paper);
  • for pet owners – pads and bags.

If the station is used as a shelter before the train services cease (22:30–23:30), remember:

  • do not occupy passenger flow areas to avoid hindering others;
  • use space wisely so everyone can fit comfortably;
  • keep an eye on personal belongings and maintain cleanliness to avoid litter.

After 5:30 a.m., when the metro resumes regular operations, stations no longer function as shelters. Passengers remaining inside should be mindful of safety:

  • sleeping on platforms or stairs is prohibited;
  • this poses safety risks due to train movements;
  • it obstructs evacuation routes, which are critical in emergencies.

Remember that more than 700 metro employees work at night to ensure safety and maintenance to keep the metro safe and comfortable during the day.

The metro encourages understanding and support for its staff, as they ensure the uninterrupted operation and safety of stations during challenging times.
