Oshkosh Defense, a leading manufacturer of military vehicles, has announced a new mobile launch system for Tomahawk missiles. This information was released by company representatives.
The company has developed a heavy-duty autonomous vehicle, the X-MAV (Extreme Multi-Mission Autonomous Vehicle), designed for autonomous launches of long-range missiles, which will be showcased at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) exhibition in Washington from October 13 to 15.
"The X-MAV from Oshkosh is a specialized launch system capable of autonomous firing. It serves as an ideal platform for the CAML-H (Common Autonomous Multi-Domain Launcher Heavy) program for multi-mission operations," the statement noted.
Among the platforms presented are also the medium (M-MAV) and light (L-MAV) variants. The M-MAV features remote control capabilities and is equipped with a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS), while the L-MAV consists of modules for drone interception and electronic warfare.
Tomahawk missiles were originally designed for launches from ships and submarines of the U.S. Navy. Launches from ground installations became feasible only in 2023 with the acquisition of the Typhon systems, a land-based variant of the ship-launched vertical launch system Mk41, which was adopted back in 1982.
It is worth noting that on October 11, U.S. President Donald Trump discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the potential transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
