The capital has appointed a new deputy head of the City Accessibility Committee from public organizations. The position was taken by Hennadiy Yevseyev, president of the All-Ukrainian organization for visually impaired individuals, «Generation of Successful Action». This was announced by Lesya Petrivska, the authorized representative of the Kyiv City Council for the rights of persons with disabilities.

«Our Accessibility Committee has two deputy heads – one from the city administration and one from public organizations. It is crucial for the government, experts, and the public to collaborate when making decisions regarding accessibility. We are committed to constructive cooperation,» emphasized Lesya Petrivska during the Committee's meeting.

During the session, Committee members discussed the response from the Ministry of Community Development regarding the implementation of existing building codes for safe pedestrian pathways at ground-level crossings. Relevant services will explore the feasibility of experimental solutions for such crossings in Kyiv.

Moreover, heads of accessibility committees at district administrations reported on their activities for 2023 and provided information on the accessibility levels in the capital's districts.

Lesya Petrivska added that Kyiv, as the capital, must not only meet modern accessibility standards but also set an example for other cities in Ukraine.

«The City Accessibility Committee is working to make Kyiv more inclusive. We need not only to assess the situation on the ground but also to identify issues and seek joint solutions to improve infrastructure accessibility. Currently, we are actively involving experts and the public in all processes, as together we can more effectively address problems and consider the needs of all population groups. This is a collective effort that requires ongoing collaboration and attention,» added Lesya Petrivska.

The committee's work has also included the deputy head of the Kyiv City Administration responsible for self-governing authority and accessibility issues, Marina Honda, as well as Kyiv City Council deputies Olesya Zubrytska, Yevheniya Kuleba, and other public representatives.
