The Kyiv City Council has approved a new report from the Ombudsman for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, detailing the monitoring of rights compliance in 2023. The report examines the situation in the capital, including measures for protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and suggestions for improving infrastructure.

According to the Ombudsman, over 1,400 complaints regarding rights violations were received in various areas, such as healthcare, education, and social security over the past year.

“Key challenges remain the accessibility of medical services and infrastructure. Although we are seeing positive changes, persons with disabilities still face numerous challenges. Collaborative efforts between local authorities and NGOs are crucial to improving the situation,” emphasized Lesya Petriivska.

The report also includes recommendations for enhancing the accessibility of residential buildings, parking, and electronic services, as well as training for civil servants.

“These measures are our steps towards creating a barrier-free Kyiv. Raising public awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities is our collective responsibility,” she added.
