In Zaporizhzhia, plans are underway to construct new modular shelters in the courtyards of apartment buildings to improve residents' safety. According to Akzent.zp.ua, the head of the Zaporizhzhia OVA, Ivan Fedorov, noted that during air alerts, many residents are unable to quickly access safe locations. Many buildings lack basements, and those that do are often not up to safety standards.
These new shelters will be partially underground and can accommodate 30 to 50 people at once. Residents will be able to exit their apartments directly into the yard where the safe shelter will be located.
"This will save time and reduce stress, as there will be no need to search for a basement or rush to the nearest shelter," said Fedorov.
This project is part of a systematic approach to safety, and if the Ministry of Community Development approves it, shelters will be constructed on a large scale not only in Zaporizhzhia but also in other towns across the region.
Currently, negotiations are ongoing regarding funding and construction organization. The authorities hope that the realization of this initiative will enhance the sense of security in communities even during the most challenging times.
Additionally, the first test section of the anti-drone tunnel in Zaporizhzhia has proven effective, and construction of dozens of kilometers continues. The Zaporizhzhia region has also received its first specialized anti-drone tunnel to protect civilian and military transport from drone attacks. This tunnel will ensure safer movement of personnel and evacuation of the wounded. By the end of the year, the State Enterprise "Administration of Seaports of Ukraine" plans to install 38 additional mobile shelters in ports. In Kherson region, there are also plans to equip 264 kilometers of roads and critical infrastructure with anti-drone nets.
