Polish border guards are starting to collect biometric data from citizens ahead of the launch of a new system that will be operational in October.
This was announced by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during a television broadcast.
According to him, the European Union previously informed that it was preparing to implement a new border crossing system that would affect all Schengen Zone countries, potentially delaying processing times.
«Poland has begun testing the new system to ensure it operates more efficiently and quickly, avoiding queues during processing. Preliminary data suggests that the system will be fully operational in October. Poland is preparing for this, so we can expect longer border crossing times as biometric data from those entering Poland need to be recorded,» Demchenko stated.
In this regard, he advised citizens to allow more time for crossing the border towards Poland.
Reminder: Starting October 12, the European Union will begin implementing the new digital EES (Entry/Exit System) for third-country nationals, which will gradually replace passport stamping and collect biometric data.
