The Minister of Health of Ukraine, Viktor Lyashko, held a significant meeting focused on the launch of the electronic blood donation tracking system - «eBlood».

Representatives from the Ministry of Health, the National Health Service, the Ukrainian Transplant Coordination Center, and the State Enterprise «Electronic Health» participated in the meeting. They discussed key implementation stages, essential functionalities, and future development strategies.

“Establishing a digital infrastructure in the field of blood donation is a vital step towards digitizing the healthcare system. With the «eBlood» system, we can manage blood supplies more effectively, reduce the risks of shortages, and enhance patient safety. The system will simplify the donation process, allowing for quick and reliable access to information about blood supplies, types, and Rh factors, which is critically important for saving lives. This tool will facilitate the work of healthcare professionals and increase donor trust in the system. We are creating a unified digital space in blood donation, covering everything from registration to quality control. This means every donation will be accounted for and utilized where it is most needed, allowing the state to effectively plan policies in this area. Such tools make Ukrainian medicine modern and responsive to citizens' needs.”

The minister also highlighted the main features of the system, which include maintaining comprehensive documentation on the donation process: from the date and location of blood donation to the results of medical examinations.

The system will also contain information on available blood supplies across medical facilities, blood types, and Rh factors. All this information will be centralized and accessible in digital form, enabling healthcare institutions to manage blood donation supplies effectively according to actual needs.

Currently, the system has already implemented modules for administrative management, logistics, and donor registration, allowing for tracking donations, blood component transfers, and user registrations. Over 650 medical facilities are already connected to the platform.

In the future, there are plans to integrate the «eBlood» system with the electronic health system, creating a unified digital space for blood donation. As part of this integration, functionalities for entering donor medical examination results and recording adverse reactions have already been implemented.

Additionally, a donor visit registry and a registry of licenses for blood collection and testing have been established, which has been operational since June 1, 2025.

Currently, phased expansion of functionalities is underway, including the launch of blood sample tracking and the implementation of quality control systems, laboratory research, and donor incentive programs.
