In the next two weeks, fresh water will completely replace saltwater in all water supply systems in Mykolaiv.

This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko.

"Water supply has already begun in the systems and reservoirs of the water utility. In two weeks, fresh water will completely replace saltwater in all city systems. The water supply will provide 120 thousand cubic meters of water daily for households and another 50 thousand for irrigation of agricultural land," the Prime Minister stated.

She emphasized that residents of Mykolaiv will have access to fresh water from taps for the first time since 2022.

According to her, the pipes and pumps are located underground. Currently, shelters for workers are being completed. Additionally, remote control panels, backup power systems, and air attack protection systems have been installed.

The Recovery Agency clarified that the project is currently over 90% complete. The entire pipeline has been installed: about 136 km in two lines, each 67.9 km long. Pump stations are 88% equipped. Subsequently, landscaping works will be completed, and access roads will be restored.

Recall that in 2022, Russian forces blew up a key pipeline that supplied water to Mykolaiv. In 2024, 8.7 billion UAH was allocated from the state budget for the construction of a new water intake system from the Southern Bug River. As a result, the project cost 6.5 billion UAH, and the saved funds are planned to be redirected for the construction of water supply systems in other regions. Construction work began in January 2025, and in August, test operation of the water supply system was launched.
