Inevitable Rise in Housing and Utility Prices in Ukraine

The increase in housing and utility prices in Ukraine is inevitable, according to a representative of the NBU.

In Ukraine, the rise in housing and utility rates for the population is unavoidable and will happen sooner or later.

This was stated by the first deputy governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Serhiy Nikolaychuk, in an interview.

"When rates remain unchanged for several years and then spike dramatically, it complicates our ability to manage inflationary processes," Nikolaychuk noted.

The NBU believes that the current subsidy system is quite costly for the state.

"This adds extra pressure on the budget and leads to quasi-budgetary imbalances. Therefore, sooner or later, it will need to be adjusted. We think that greater predictability and stability in this area would help us better manage inflation," the first deputy governor of the NBU emphasized.

Reminder: The debt of Ukrainians for housing and utility services reached 106.6 billion UAH as of the second quarter of 2025.
