According to recent reports, the death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan on the night of September 1 has risen to 900, with an additional 3,000 individuals injured.

This information comes from AP.

The majority of the casualties were recorded in Kunar province, where residents live predominantly in river valleys surrounded by high mountains.

“The earthquake triggered landslides in several areas, blocking roads, but they have been reopened, and further routes will also be cleared to ensure access to hard-to-reach areas,” said Yusuf Hammad, spokesperson for Afghanistan's National Disaster Management Authority.

Helicopters are being utilized to evacuate the injured to hospitals, while humanitarian organizations have stated their teams are walking to reach the most isolated regions. The Taliban have sought international assistance.
Previously, it was reported that the death toll from this earthquake had already surpassed 800, with at least 2,800 individuals injured.
