The solemn event was attended by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, Deputy Prime Minister for Ukraine’s Reconstruction Oleksii Kuleba, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, Minister for Veterans Affairs Natalia Kalmykova, and Deputy Head of the President's Office Pavlo Palisa.
The Head of State listened to a report from the spokesperson of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, Hennadii Popenko. Sections for honorable burials have already been established at the cemetery, two columbaria have been built, and engineering networks and access roads have been laid. A parking lot and a shuttle service for visitors have also been organized, which the President used to arrive today.
A dedicated area has been allocated for the burial of soldiers whose names are currently unknown. An Alley of Limes is also being created, symbolizing the road of memory.
The uniqueness of the memorial lies in standardized burials. Initially, a temporary cross inspired by Cossack monuments of the 15th–16th centuries will be installed here, followed by a permanent gravestone in the form of a cross or plaque after a year. The final choice will be made by the relatives of the deceased.
Today, five defenders were buried, whose names are not yet established. The cemetery will continue to accommodate the remains of unknown heroes.
The memory of the fallen soldiers was honored with a moment of silence.
