Honoring Heroes: New Awards for Ukraine's Defenders

President Volodymyr Zelensky has awarded new honors to 1039 Ukrainian heroes, including 282 posthumously, for their bravery and service.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has conferred state awards to 1039 individuals, of which 282 were awarded posthumously.

The relevant decrees, published on August 23, are available on the president's official website.

The documents indicate that the awards are given for exceptional bravery demonstrated in the defense of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for dedicated service to the Ukrainian people. According to decree No. 623/2025, 535 national guards, police officers, and rescuers have been honored, with 153 of them posthumously recognized. Under decree No. 624/2025, 504 military personnel have received awards, with 129 posthumously honored. The defenders were awarded the Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi II and III degrees, the Order of Daniel of Galicia, and medals for "Courage" I, II, and III degrees, "For Merits", "For Military Service to Ukraine", "Defender of the Fatherland", "For Saving Lives", and "For Impeccable Service".
