Russian sources are disseminating false information, claiming that hackers from Russia breached the database of the Ukrainian General Staff and discovered «1.7 million dead and missing soldiers» during the war.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine via Telegram.

«Kremlin-controlled propaganda outlets are spreading claims that Russian hackers have hacked into the Ukrainian Armed Forces' database and obtained information about «1.7 million dead and missing Ukrainian soldiers» during the invasion. This is absurd, as Ukraine has never had an army of that size», the statement reads.

According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, as of January 2025, the Ukrainian army's strength was 880,000. He also stated that Russian army casualties are three times higher than those of Ukraine. The Center reminded that according to General Staff data, as of August 20, Russians have lost 1,072,700 personnel killed and wounded since February 24, 2022, which undermines the fabricated figures from Russian propagandists regarding Ukrainian losses.

"The aim of this fake is to demoralize Ukrainians, convince the world of the «exhaustion and inefficiency of the Armed Forces of Ukraine», and weaken its international support," the Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized.
