This summer, there is a noticeable increase in demand for train services in Ukraine, surpassing the capacity of the state company.
In August, rail transport is experiencing its peak season for passenger transport. For each seat on the trains, there are 4-5 requests.
This information was reported by Ukrzaliznytsia.
Company representatives acknowledge that many passengers are disappointed when they cannot purchase tickets even immediately after sales open. The reason is simple — a large number of people are trying to buy tickets at the same time.
Furthermore, Ukrzaliznytsia noted that the fleet of carriages is decreasing faster than the company can purchase or modernize. Some carriages have been taken out of service due to age or damage: last year, three carriages were lost due to Russian shelling, six were retired due to wear, and 95 require expensive repairs.
Ukrzaliznytsia assures that despite all challenges, the company manages to transport more passengers year after year. As of August 3, there were 1488 carriages in long-distance trains.
The main task for the near future is to increase the number of seats. For this, Ukrzaliznytsia needs sufficient funding to regularly purchase new carriages and Intercity trains, as well as to modernize those approaching the end of their service life.
