On Friday, Germany announced it would provide Ukraine with two Patriot air defense systems after reaching an agreement with the USA that Berlin would take priority in receiving new systems in place of those already supplied.
This information was confirmed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, as reported by Reuters.
The head of the German defense ministry stated that, due to commitments from the USA, "Germany can initially provide Ukraine with launchers and later additional components of the Patriot system".
The Bundeswehr plans to deliver additional Patriot launchers to Ukraine in the coming days, followed by other system components in two to three months.
In return, Germany will receive new Patriot systems from the USA at an accelerated pace.
It is worth noting that on July 14, US President Donald Trump stated during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Rutte in Washington that the USA would no longer supply arms to Ukraine for free, and now European countries and Canada will fund these purchases.
The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, in an interview with "EuroPravda", responded to questions about the Patriot air defense systems and how many Ukraine expects to receive through German support, noting that this number is currently changing.
"Initially, we approached the Germans to request they purchase two systems for us from the United States. After the meeting in Ramstein, it was publicly stated that partners were looking for five systems. However, in reality, we need ten or more," he emphasized.
