On Monday, Israeli military forces launched strikes against Houthi positions in the Yemeni port city of Hudaydah as part of a new operation targeting Iranian-backed militants who have been attacking vessels headed to Israel and firing rockets at it.

This was reported by Reuters.

The channel «Al-Masira», run by the Houthi rebels, confirmed on Monday that a series of attacks occurred at the port but did not provide further details.

Israeli military officials stated that the port targeted was used «for the transfer of weapons from the Iranian regime, which are then used by the Houthis to carry out terrorist attacks against Israel and its allies».

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized that the army «firmly opposes any attempts to restore terrorist infrastructure».

«As I have made clear - the fate of Yemen is intertwined with that of Tehran. The Houthis will pay a heavy price for launching rockets toward the State of Israel», he stated.

Since the onset of Israel's war in Gaza against the Palestinian militant group Hamas in October 2023, Iran-linked Houthis have been targeting ships in the Red Sea, claiming it as an act of solidarity with the Palestinians. In response, Israel has initiated strikes on the Houthis, who control the most populated areas of Yemen, including the vital port of Hudaydah.
