President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

Zelensky emphasized that this meeting reflects the strong friendship and mutual respect between our nations.

«Thank you for your support of Ukraine's sovereignty. Your assistance is vital, and I am grateful to the Italian people, especially to you, Mr. President, for recognizing this war brought by Putin as a great evil», – stated Zelensky.

He pointed out that Ukraine is striving for a just peace, while Russia rejects constructive proposals and continues its aggression. Therefore, achieving peace is only possible through enhanced sanctions and pressure on Russia, along with strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities.

The Presidents discussed Ukraine's efforts to return children illegally deported to Russia.

Additionally, during the meeting, they talked about establishing a Special Tribunal to prosecute Russia's aggression. Zelensky urged Italy to support this initiative so that the tribunal could commence its work as soon as possible.

Zelensky separately thanked Italy for organizing an international conference on Ukraine's reconstruction. He noted that the rebuilding of the country should also involve its transformation, and the participation of Italian businesses is very important.

The President of Italy mentioned that over 500 Italian companies would participate in the conference on Ukraine's reconstruction, where specific agreements would be made.

The leaders discussed Ukraine's path to the EU, the fulfillment of conditions for membership negotiations, engaging partners in peace talks, and the necessity of increasing pressure on Russia to deprive the aggressor of its economic tools for warfare.
