Emergency service 112 in Ukraine has proven its effectiveness through the coordinated efforts of operators who have managed to save numerous lives and prevent many tragedies.
In its two years of operation, the service has processed over 7 million calls, as reported by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.
One notable story involves a call from a 12-year-old girl whose apartment experienced a gas leak. Her mother fainted, and thanks to a calm conversation with the operator, the girl followed instructions and avoided disaster.
Another case involved a man attempting to end his life. The operator spoke with him for over an hour, calming him down and calling for help, ultimately saving him.
Foreigners have also reached out to the line, with nearly 700 such calls recorded. 59 operators speak foreign languages, including English, Polish, Spanish, French, and Chinese.
There is also the option to communicate using sign language via video call, with over 31,000 such calls made.
“The service also opens doors for veterans. Already, 17 defenders who cannot serve due to injuries or health issues have become operators of line 112. Their experience is invaluable in a field where every second counts,” Klymenko noted.
Service centers are already operational in Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipro, with a new center set to open soon in Odesa.
