Ukrzaliznytsia has announced the option to book the new train cars, which will operate under normal conditions unless special requests are made.
The first experimental passenger train car designed for the comfortable transport of persons with disabilities has been successfully modernized.
This coupe-type car features 6 sleeping berths instead of the usual 4, allowing two wheelchair passengers and two attendants to travel comfortably. If there is no need for inclusive seating, up to 6 passengers can use the car.
Key features of the car include:
- Electric lift with a capacity of 300 kg;
- Wider doors and corridors for easy movement;
- Navigation in Braille and high-contrast signage;
- Spacious restroom with shower, SOS button, crutch holder, changing table, and child seat;
- Restroom occupancy indicator;
- Individual power outlets with USB and Type-C;
- Adjustable seating;
- Separate lighting control in the coupe and at each seat;
- Video surveillance in designated areas of the car.
The car was created at the facilities of the Bakhmach car depot, with work lasting three months and carried out by the company’s specialists.
Before modernizing the car, Ukrzaliznytsia’s team conducted consultations with organizations specializing in assisting people with disabilities to ensure their real needs were met in creating this modern inclusive train car.
This train car is part of Ukrzaliznytsia's broader effort to implement barrier-free solutions in rail transport. The company is consistently working on ensuring accessibility for both rolling stock and station infrastructure for people with limited mobility, including improvements for access to platforms and navigation services.
Ukrzaliznytsia emphasizes that this car is just the first step in a larger program to create a barrier-free environment in rail travel. The company plans to expand similar solutions to make travel comfortable and accessible for all passenger categories.
