Over 100 fatalities: what we know about the devastating flood in Texas

The hardest-hit area was Kerr County, where the Guadalupe River overflowed following heavy rains. At least 84 people have been confirmed dead, including 56 adults and 28 children.

According to the sheriff's office, 22 adults and 10 children remain unaccounted for.

A separate tragedy occurred at the Christian girls’ summer camp “Mystic,” where at least 27 girls and staff lost their lives. Ten girls and one counselor are still missing.

Meteorologists from CNN reported that central Texas received a month's worth of rainfall in just a few hours. In Hunt County, approximately 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) of rain fell in just three hours, a rarity that occurs once every century.

Search and rescue teams continue their efforts, but hope of finding survivors is fading.

To address the disaster’s aftermath, 1,750 personnel and over 975 vehicles have been deployed.

The White House dismissed claims that budget cuts to the National Weather Service (NWS) hindered timely disaster response.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stated that the NWS held briefings for local officials ahead of the flooding. Additionally, a flood alert was sent out that day, along with several warnings during the night and before dawn on July 4.
