Ukraine has officially established unified regulations for transporting animals in intercity and international buses.
This initiative is a joint effort between the Government and UAnimals, responding to numerous requests from pet owners and passengers.
How should animals be transported?
- Small animals (up to 10 kg) – such as cats, dogs, birds, or rodents – must travel in containers or bags with absorbent bottoms. They can be held in hand, placed under seats, or in a separate area (which requires purchasing an adjacent seat).
- Medium and large dogs (10–45 kg) must be on a leash and muzzled, resting on a mat on the floor. Adjacent seats need to be purchased. Dogs are not allowed to sit on the seats.
- Dogs over 45 kg will travel under individual regulations set by the carrier in specially equipped transport.
- Guide dogs will always travel for free, without needing to purchase seats, alongside the person they assist. They must be muzzled and on a short leash.
In all cases, it is mandatory to have a veterinary document.
