Ukrainian GUR veterans Taras Prots and Serhiy Shikun, who sustained serious injuries in combat, participated in one of the toughest races in the world — the Spartan Ultra World Championship, held in the town of Morzine in the French Alps. They covered 52 kilometers of mountain terrain with over 60 obstacles and an elevation gain of more than 2,800 meters. The journey took them 9.5 hours. Both fighters bear combat injuries and amputations, yet they continue to serve Ukraine actively, exemplifying the unyielding spirit of Ukrainian warriors.
“The experience was incredible. We feel exhausted, but nothing extraordinary really. We didn’t think about quitting the race because we have a mission; we have a goal — and we must achieve it,” shares Taras Prots.
“It was quite a strong challenge, but we overcame it, and that's awesome. It's all about character, the will to live, the will to be unyielding, to be strong. For ourselves, and then for others,” explains Serhiy Shikun about his motivation.
The participation of GUR veterans in the Spartan Ultra World Championship is part of a campaign to raise 1 million UAH as part of the Limitless project for the rehabilitation of GUR veterans of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine who have lost limbs due to injuries.
