Thanks to the initiative «Virtual Cultural Heritage», Ukrainians can learn more about their history at metro stations during air alerts.
Recently, a presentation of the «Virtual Cultural Heritage» project took place in Kyiv, supported by international organizations and local initiatives.
The main goal of the project is to make knowledge about Ukrainian history accessible to everyone, especially those who are in shelters.
Information panels with QR codes have already been installed at 20 metro stations in Kyiv. Passengers can scan the codes to access an online platform with materials about archaeological discoveries and cultural heritage.
All content is also available for use in other places such as hospitals and schools. Similar initiatives are already being implemented in Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Lviv.
«We always support projects that contribute to societal development. This initiative allows people to discover the history of Kyiv and later visit an exhibition at the „Golden Gates“», - said Oksana Nikoforuk, a representative from KP «Kyiv Metro».
The initiators emphasize that this is not just an exhibition, but a way to preserve national memory, which is an essential element of Ukraine's resilience. During wartime, shelters become spaces for self-awareness and cultural resistance.
Project leader Yuriy Pugolovok highlights that this approach helps preserve cultural heritage even in challenging wartime conditions. He emphasizes that knowledge of the past is crucial for national security.
«Virtual Cultural Heritage» is a play on words, symbolizing the value of history and identity that aggressors seek to erase. The project aims to transform shelters into spaces for self-discovery.
Museum expert Kateryna Chuyeva believes that such initiatives can change society's attitude towards cultural heritage, especially in wartime.
The project demonstrates how culture can become a force for resilience and unity in difficult times. «Virtual Cultural Heritage» affirms the importance of cultural heritage for the nation's future.
