The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense held significant discussions with a Swedish delegation regarding joint initiatives in space technology for military applications.
The meeting focused on enhancing Ukraine's capabilities with the support of international partners.
Developing Satellite Reconnaissance in Ukraine with Partner Support
The Ukrainian representatives showcased their achievements, including the establishment of the Space Policy Office planned for March 2025, and outlined the primary needs of the Armed Forces.
Alexander Havgutenko, head of the office, emphasized that Ukraine is ready to share its unique combat experience, focusing on data processing from partners rather than scaling its own equipment.
Deputy Minister Kateryna Chernogorenko stressed that this area is critically important as satellites provide the military with reliable communication, reconnaissance data, and early warning systems, which save lives.
General Lars Helmrich, head of the Swedish delegation, confirmed Sweden's interest in cooperation, especially regarding Ukraine's combat experience.
He also noted that Sweden can facilitate Ukraine's connections with other partners, particularly Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Iceland).
Discussion on Modernizing Ukraine's Air Force with Sweden
In May, key topics of discussion included the modernization of the existing fleet of Soviet aircraft using modern avionics and the potential transfer of Swedish aircraft to Ukraine.
EU Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius, during his visit to Sweden, stated that the Scandinavian country must take the lead in building Europe's defense capabilities.
In December, it was revealed that the European Union is discussing the creation of a joint defense fund of 500 billion euros to increase defense spending ahead of the possible return of Donald Trump to the U.S. presidency.
This funding model, which will also be available not only to EU member states, is gaining traction among key EU countries.
Earlier, Ukraine and Sweden had already discussed enhancing the aviation capabilities of Ukraine's Armed Forces.
