Ukraine is actively developing new drones designed to enhance the protection of its energy infrastructure against Russian attacks.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky during the “Ukraine – Southeast Europe“ summit held on June 11 in Odesa.

Ukraine is working on interceptor drones

“We have some weaponry in development. Certain models are ready, and we are seeking more funding for mass production. This includes various types of interceptor drones,” the President stated.

According to him, the necessity for new defense measures is extremely urgent, as Russian forces are currently launching over 300 drones into Ukraine daily.

Volodymyr Zelensky also mentioned that several layers of defense for energy infrastructure are already in place in Ukraine, where traditional air defense systems play a key role. He emphasized the need to maintain confidentiality regarding their locations.

“I will not disclose which systems we have and where they are located or which energy assets they protect. As soon as the Russians learn where our air defense systems are, they target them, which is why we constantly change the routes of our air defense systems,” explained the President.

“Bars” – a new Ukrainian drone missile with a range of up to 800 km

A private company in Ukraine is developing a new drone missile called “Bars,” but details are still scarce.

According to unverified information, it is capable of striking targets at a distance of 700-800 kilometers with a warhead weighing 50-100 kilograms.

By comparison, the Shahed-136/Geran-2 kamikaze drones used by Moscow to attack Ukrainian cities typically have a 50-kilogram warhead and a claimed flight range of 2,500 km, but they have significantly lower speed than missiles, making them easier to intercept.
