The capital repair of the bridge over the canal in Vyshhorod on the R-69 route connecting Kyiv and Chernihiv is currently underway. The head of the Kyiv regional military administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, along with representatives from the State Agency for Restoration, inspected the progress of the works. He shared this information on his Facebook page.
One of the bridge spans was completely destroyed in 2022 at the onset of the full-scale invasion. A pontoon crossing was established for light vehicles to avoid detours through neighboring villages. However, according to Kalashnyk, this crossing is unable to handle the traffic flow, resulting in congestion during peak hours.
“The restoration of the main bridge began last year. Currently, approximately 50% of the work has been completed. The capital repairs are being carried out within the framework of a loan agreement with the United Kingdom. The works are being executed by the Turkish contractor Doğuş Grubu. The main issue identified is a shortage of workers on site. We have agreed with the contractor to increase the number of workers to expedite the process,” Kalashnyk reported.
Kalashnyk also mentioned that traffic on this bridge is expected to reopen in September 2025. Officials also inspected the bridge in the village of Lebedivka, which had been handling the main traffic load before the pontoon crossing was established.
“Currently, it requires repairs, and weight restrictions are in place. To address this issue, a temporary bridge is being constructed in cooperation with the State Special Transport Service, which is planned to be opened in August. After that, the main bridge in Lebedivka will close for repairs, which we aim to complete in the first half of next year,” Kalashnyk explained.
