Billionaire Elon Musk, who leads the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency, has declared his exit from political involvement to return to the business sector.

This was reported by the Washington Post.

Musk intends to focus on his core enterprises - Tesla and SpaceX.

The decision to withdraw from politics, according to WP, stems from public backlash and declining profits linked to his political engagements.

Over the past year, Musk has actively backed initiatives from President Donald Trump, investing over $288 million in his campaign and the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency, which oversaw significant cuts in the federal government.

Musk is also deeply concerned about his personal safety, having not anticipated such a level of backlash against him and his companies.

«I believe I have done enough,» Musk stated, adding that he plans to spend «far less» on politics unless there is a compelling reason to do so.

His focus is now directed towards advancing his primary businesses.

At Tesla, Musk is preparing for the launch of an autonomous vehicle in June this year. The Cybercab, a driverless car without a steering wheel or pedals, is also under development.

SpaceX is set to conduct a test launch of its new-generation Starship rocket next week.

Musk is additionally working towards a driverless mission to Mars scheduled for 2026. Furthermore, the company continues its collaboration with NASA on the Artemis program, which aims to land astronauts on the Moon by 2027.

It is noted that Musk's departure from political activities could represent a significant loss for the Republican Party, which relied on his financial backing and organizational resources.
