On May 23, the 65th prisoner exchange took place between Ukraine and Russia.
Thanks to the efforts of the Ukrainian government, 390 defenders were freed, as announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Details About the May 23 Exchange
This is the first part of the agreement with Russia for an exchange based on the formula of 1000 for 1000.
Further exchanges are expected over the weekend.
The returned fighters defended Ukraine on various fronts.
“I thank everyone who helps and works tirelessly to bring Ukrainians home. It is crucial to return everyone who is in captivity,” noted the President.
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported that among those released are:
- members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including the Navy, Airborne Forces, and Territorial Defense Forces
- the National Guard of Ukraine
- the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
- Among those freed today are 3 women and 387 men.
