US President Donald Trump stated that the United States is on the verge of reaching a new nuclear agreement with Iran, indicating that Tehran has shown willingness to cooperate.

As reported by CNN, this information was relayed by "European Truth".

On May 15, Trump expressed optimism about reaching an agreement, noting some progress in negotiations, but warned of a potential "harsh step" if no deal is reached.

"Iran seems to have agreed to the terms: they will not produce, as I jokingly say, nuclear dust. We will not allow any production of nuclear dust in Iran," Trump stated.

He emphasized that Iran "cannot have nuclear weapons" and added that negotiations are "very close to possibly reaching an agreement".

Trump also outlined two potential scenarios: "there is a very good development" and "there is a harsh scenario – violence that people have not yet seen".

"I hope we won't have to resort to that. I do not want to take that second step. Some want to. Many want to. But I – do not. We'll see what happens next," he added.

In recent months, Trump has intensified pressure on Iran by imposing several rounds of sanctions on its oil industry, threatening to penalize foreign companies that continue to purchase Iranian oil.

Meanwhile, Washington and Tehran have agreed to continue discussions regarding Iran's nuclear program following the fourth round of talks that took place on May 11.
