Ukraine's Agricultural Exports to the EU in 2024

In 2024, Ukraine emerged as a significant agricultural exporter to the EU, securing the third position in export volumes.

In 2024, Ukraine secured the third position among agricultural exporters to the European Union, with an export volume of 13.1 billion euros, accounting for 6.7% of the total agricultural imports to the EU.

This information was reported by Delo.ua, citing Eurostat data.

Brazil was the largest supplier of agricultural products to the EU last year, providing 8.8% of the total export volume, equivalent to 17.1 billion euros.

Additionally, Ukraine is behind the United Kingdom, which holds 8.5% with an export value of 16.6 billion euros.

In 2024, the EU exported agricultural products worth 234.1 billion euros and imported goods worth 194.9 billion euros, resulting in a surplus of 39.2 billion euros.

The main suppliers of agricultural products to the EU were:

  • Brazil (8.8%, 17.1 billion euros):
  • The United Kingdom (8.5%, 16.6 billion euros);
  • Ukraine (6.7%, 13.1 billion euros);
  • The United States (6.1%, 12.0 billion euros).

Compared to 2023, both exports and imports grew by 2.8% and 6.7%, respectively.

From 2014 to 2024, the volume of agricultural trade in the EU increased by 59.0%. Specifically, exports rose by 58.0%, and imports by 60.2%, corresponding to an average annual growth rate of 4.7% for exports and 4.8% for imports.

In 2024, the United Kingdom became the primary destination for EU agricultural exports, accounting for 23.0% of the total volume (54.0 billion euros). The United States ranked second (12.8%; 30.1 billion euros), followed by Switzerland (5.4%; 12.6 billion euros) and China (5.3%; 12.3 billion euros).

It was previously reported that in 2024, agricultural products were the main imports from Ukraine to the EU, including grains worth 4.4 billion euros, animal or vegetable fats and oils (3.1 billion euros), and oilseed and related products (2.5 billion euros).

In 2024, corn seed exports from Ukraine to the EU surged more than 30 times compared to 2021, reaching a record high of 115 million dollars.

The primary importer of Ukrainian corn seeds was France, which purchased 9.7 thousand tons at a customs value of 26.1 million dollars last year.

It is also noteworthy that Ukrainian farmers have completed the planting season, having sown 76% of the planted area.

This amounts to over 4.3 million hectares, and we expect that the harvest in 2025 will not be less than last year's, - stated the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.
