Tesla Resumes Supply Chain from China

Tesla is set to resume component supplies from China to the USA following tariff reductions.

Elon Musk's company, Tesla, is preparing to restart its component imports from China to the USA at the end of May. This comes after agreements were reached between Washington and Beijing regarding the removal of most tariffs.

According to Reuters, the situation may still evolve, as "the Trump administration remains unpredictable".

In April, Tesla halted its supplies after President Donald Trump raised tariffs on Chinese goods to 145%. This jeopardized the launch of mass production for two new models — Cybercab and Semi.

Prototype production is scheduled for October, with series production set for 2026. The Cybercab will be produced in Texas, while the electric truck Semi will be manufactured in Nevada.

The company is also seeking approval to launch a robotaxi service without steering wheels and pedals, with a promised price below $30,000.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously stated: "I pushed for tariff reductions in front of Trump, but the final decision rests with the U.S. president."

CFO Vaibhav Taneja added that tariffs are hindering investments: "Tesla is forced to bring in equipment from outside the USA, particularly from China, to expand domestic production."
