A three-day conference took place in Lviv, focusing on the relevant issues of using service dogs for emotional support. The event was organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the National Police, and the European Union Advisory Mission.
The conference brought together representatives from various fields: police, academics, dog trainers, psychologists, medical professionals, military personnel, rescuers, and international partners.
Among the participants were specialists from Kyiv, including Vitalii Lytvyn, Daria Lepska, and Ruslan Hubanov, who explored the results of a pilot project involving service dogs.
Discussions focused on methods for engaging with veterans who have experienced traumatic events due to the war. Veterans also shared personal rehabilitation stories with their four-legged companions, highlighting their crucial role in the recovery process.
Additionally, Kyiv police participated in training sessions, allowing them to deepen their knowledge and exchange experiences with colleagues from different regions and the EU. The insights gained will assist them in their ongoing work with veterans.
