In 2025, Kyiv's forestry organizations planted over 234,000 seedlings and established 9.1 hectares of new forest areas. Coniferous species make up the largest portion — more than 179,000.
According to the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation of the Kyiv City State Administration, nearly 80,000 seedlings were planted in the autumn, including about 52,000 coniferous species. The main varieties in this campaign are oak and Scots pine, which contribute to creating resilient and long-lasting forest stands in the capital. In just a few years, these seedlings will grow into young trees, forming the foundation of a renewed forest.
In total, this year, the following were planted:
- KP “Sviatoshyn Forestry” — 149.4 thousand seedlings
- KP “Darnytsia Forestry” — 41.4 thousand seedlings
- KP “Koncha-Zaspa” — 43.4 thousand seedlings
“We continue our work on forest restoration: during the full-scale war, when the environment of Ukraine is suffering significant losses, our task is to protect and increase Kyiv's green resources. The forestry organizations use seedlings grown in local nurseries, which are better adapted to the urban climate. This is meticulous work, the results of which will be visible in a few years when these trees become part of the capital's green zones,” said Acting Director of the Department Pavlo Ivanov.
It is worth noting that the total area of land managed by the capital's forestry organizations within the city is nearly 32 thousand hectares.
