A tragic incident occurred in the Cherkasy region when a suspect wanted for murder opened fire during an arrest, killing four police officers. The police special forces neutralized the shooter. This was reported by the head of the National Police of Ukraine on Facebook.
«Today in Cherkasy we witnessed a horrific tragedy. During the arrest, the suspect fired at law enforcement officers. The special police units eliminated the criminal. Four police officers lost their lives to protect the lives of innocent citizens», - he stated.
Among the deceased are: the commander of platoon No. 1 of the special police unit in the Cherkasy region, Major Sergey Safronov, and his deputy, Major Oleksandr Florinsky.
Also killed were: Lieutenant Denys Polovynka and Major Volodymyr Boyko, a community officer.
«This tragedy once again highlights the cost of security for the state, even far from the front lines. The pain of this loss is beyond words. Eternal memory to the fallen heroes», - emphasized the head of the NPU.
He also noted that police officers go on duty every day, fully aware of the risks, and risk their lives not only on the front lines but also in the rear.
«For them, there are no safe shifts. Every outing could be the last. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen officers. We share your loss and will never forget the heroism of your loved ones», - he added.
He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured officer, Alexander Shpak.
