The military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has apprehended another Russian informer in the Mykolaiv region. The individual is a 21-year-old serviceman recruited by the enemy, serving in an air defense unit.
The investigation revealed that the suspect was transmitting data regarding the air defense system near military airfields to Russia.
Specifically, it was documented that during an air raid alarm, the informer recorded a monitor displaying secret software with his phone while on duty.
He also relayed information about the flight paths of the Ukrainian Air Force and the combat positions of Ukrainian air defense units to the enemy.
Using the intelligence received, the Russians hoped to strike at the defense forces' airfields while bypassing radar stations.
However, SBU operatives acted preemptively and apprehended the informer immediately after his first contact with the occupiers. Comprehensive measures were simultaneously undertaken to secure the positions of Ukrainian troops.
It was established that the suspect came under the radar of Russian intelligence when he posted pro-Kremlin comments in Telegram channels.
During searches, a smartphone containing evidence of his work for Russia was seized from him.
Based on the collected evidence, the investigators of the SBU informed him of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 3 of Article 114-2 (unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement, transfer, or location of the Armed Forces and other military formations during martial law);
- Part 1 of Article 361-2 (unauthorized sale or dissemination of restricted access information stored in electronic computing machines, automated systems, or on such media).
The offender faces up to 12 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing to establish all circumstances of the crime.
Comprehensive measures were conducted under the procedural guidance of the Mykolaiv Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the sphere of defense of the Southern region.
